As a result of this K-12 World Language Curriculum, students will:
- Engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.
- Understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.
- Present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship among the products, practices and perspectives of the culture studied.
- Reinforce and further their knowledge of other disciplines through the world language.
- Acquire information and recognize the distinctive viewpoints that are only available through the foreign language and its cultures.
- Demonstrate understanding of the nature of language through comparisons of the language studies and their own.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the concept of culture through comparisons across cultures.
- Use the language both within and beyond the school setting.
- Show evidence of becoming lifelong learners by using the language for personal enjoyment and enrichment.

Grade 6
- Level I Spanish continues
- Meets every other day
- Required materials: computer, pencil, folder with handouts
- Active class participation

- Assessed through formal and informal oral, written, and listening assessments
- End-of-year placement recommendation: Spanish I, Spanish II, or French I
Grades 7-8
- Daily classes
- Active class participation, including listening, writing, and speaking activities
- Assessed through formal and informal oral, written, and listening assessments
- Placement for Grade 9:
French
Grades 7-8
- French I: Introduction to French language and Francophone culture
- Daily classes
- Focus on listening, speaking, reading, and writing
- Emphasis on meaningful oral communication
- Placement for Grade 9: French II (if successful completion of Grades 7 and 8)
Native Heritage
Grades 7-8
- For native or heritage Spanish speakers
- Two-year course: Grades 7 and 8
- Recommended continuation in Grade 9 at The Morgan School
- Focus on Latin and Hispanic cultures, Spanish grammar, reading, writing, and oral communication
- Goal: Preserve and strengthen language skills, foster bilingualism and biculturalism
